Milford on the River Barrow

Situated between Carlow Town and Leighlinbridge village. Site of the oldest hydro-electric turbine mill in Ireland, still in use today, Milford is a haven for wildlife, including otters, heron and kingfishers. If you visit Milford, it’s well worth walking along the (often muddy) navigation canal path to Milford Lock. (access under the canal bridge from the car park) After the lock, the canal rejoins the river proper heading towards Leighlinbridge.
